Rays of Hope in a Storm of Bad News

Rays of Hope in a Storm of Bad News
  • PublishedMarch 19, 2020

This virus isn’t all that bad.

If we dare to look, we see rays of light shining all across the lonely landscape.

For one, more Americans have learned of the full fury of the government. Even when it can’t get its act together… its half-cocked plans can lock us in our homes with one sweep of the pen.

After this, we reckon folks may have fewer tendencies to vote for a guy who wants to make it a habit… a fella’ who thinks he should have even more control.

That’s a win.

Dads Will Be Dads

Here in Pennsylvania, the governor got himself in a bit of a pickle.

He asked all “nonessential” businesses to close their doors.

It turns out there aren’t many business owners who believe their life’s work isn’t essential. But, oddly enough, the public schools had no problem closing their doors for a few weeks.

Perhaps what they’re doing isn’t quite as essential as they thought.

Speaking of which…

As a backwoods boy who’s put his kids through the homeschool ringer, we can’t help but smile when we think so many lil’ Johnnies and Susies are now getting their Know-How from whom they should be getting it.

With so many schools closed… moms are forced to be moms and dads are forced to be dads.

We think most folks will see the beauty of the gift once they stop griping about being “stuck home” with the kids on Facebook.

Welcome to the world of parenting.

You made him… now feed him and teach him.

We’ll trade a case of the sniffles for the value of family any day.

A Victory for the Self-Reliant

Perhaps the greatest gift in all of this is it serves as a grand reminder for a couple of generations that now believe stuff appears magically at their doorstep.

Walking into a grocery story that has no food on its shelves – during a time when all systems are still functioning, mind you – is a good reminder that things are grand when they work. But hell is just a wrinkle away for the folks who treat Walmart like their pantry… and who believe toilet paper is a survival essential.

We’re excited to hear the good news from our friends in the small-food movement. They’re selling out of their meat and getting more calls than ever for their vegetables, and, what a world, folks are asking how to grow things themselves.

We’ve long said it’s vital to know your local butcher. We’re excited to report he’s now more popular than ever.

Just yesterday, we walked to the other side of the farm where our flower business is blossoming. We hammered a stake into the ground. We started a community seed exchange.

It was an instant success.

Folks are eager to grow.

This virus isn’t all that bad.

The media… the politicians… the fearmongers… They’ve done a bang-up job with this one.

The nation went from record highs and fist-pumping optimism to fighting for liquor, hoarding toilet paper and begging the government for a handout.

Bravo. What a show.

To those who are sick, we truly feel bad. You’re in our prayers.

But to those who have used this virus to become immune to another illness – a much more chronic illness – we say welcome.

A membership amongst the self-reliant is the best immunity one could hope for.

It’s a ray of hope in a storm of bad news.
